SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Illinois House unanimously passed a bill Thursday to allow sexual assault survivors to use vouchers to pay for taxi or rideshare services like Uber or Lyft.

Illinois currently requires treatment hospitals to provide vouchers to pay for an ambulance, forensic, lab, and follow-up healthcare services for survivors.

This plan allows people to use the voucher for transportation to and from hospitals or other treatments centers.

"The bill does not require any additional funding," said Rep. Martha Deuter (D-Westmont). "Senate bill 1274 passed the Senate unanimously and is supported by the Illinois Hospital Association."

This proposal now heads to Gov. JB Pritzker’s desk for his signature of approval.
