State Sen. Linda Holmes says the legislation she sponsored requires hospitals to have a certain set of specialists in-network.
Holmes says people go to the hospital only to find out that while their primary care provider is in-network, the specialists they need to see are not.
Holmes says Senate Bill 2641 seeks to avoid that scenario.
Holmes says the bill requires hospitals to have at least one in-network emergency room doctor, anesthesiologist, pathologist, and radiologist.
The bill was passed in both the Illinois Senate and Illinois House. It is awaiting the governor’s signature. If approved, Senate Bill 2641 would go into effect in 2026.
