Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs is encouraging people to open college savings accounts with his office.

Frerichs says that kids who know they have a savings account in their name for education are more likely to pursue higher education.

Frerichs says there is no minimum deposit and that the accounts can be used for college, vocational school, or an apprenticeship.
