The AFL-CIO of Illinois has released its list of candidates the union has endorsed for the March primary election.
Of 127 candidates backed by the union giant, 126 are Democrats. The lone Republican is Brad Stephens, a candidate for State Representative who’s a union member and the Village President of the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, adjacent to O’Hare.
The union has not endorsed a candidate in the 76th District, where three Democrats and two Republicans are vying for the seat being vacated by Democrat and union champion Lance Yednock. Next door, in the 75th District, Democrat Heidi Henry of Marseilles has not been endorsed by the union in her bid to unseat Republican incumbent Jed Davis. But, at the same time, in the 105th District, Democrat Morgan Phillips of Lostant has been endorsed in her attempt to replace incumbent Republican Dennis Tipsword.
Snagging an AFL-CIO endorsement can make a big difference in a race. Selected candidates are eligible for a significant amount of help in canvassing, phone-banking, and other outreach to the 1.7 million union household members across Illinois.
