What are expected to be the last three session days of the spring session of the Illinois General Assembly are this week.
And while Republicans have been bashing the governor – some even suing him – over his executive orders and re-opening plan, some Democratic lawmakers are also somewhat dissatisfied.
“The governor has put forth plans to set a stage for reopening the state of Illinois without any input from the General Assembly,” said State Rep. Will Davis (D-Homewood). “There are members who would love to be part of the process talking about how we re-engage our businesses and how we re-engage our constituents and our citizens and how we collectively move the state forward; but, thus far, we haven’t been included in that.”
And Davis, a point man on education in the legislature, says learning under the stay home order is not necessarily “less than.”
“I have an eight-year-old,” Davis says, “who misses school terribly. She misses being in school, the learning, of course being with her classmates and her friends, but when it comes to the idea for learning, we have brought in the remote learning that her school offers, and we supplement her learning with worksheets and books, So, if your kid loves learning, they are going to love it wherever it comes from.”
The session is Wednesday through Friday, with the House at the Bank of Springfield Center downtown, and the Senate at the Capitol.
