Will County Legislators to host update on action in Springfield

Bolingbrook – Area legislators will host their annual town hall meeting to update local residents on important new laws from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the Fountaindale Library.

State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) will be joined by State Senator Pat McGuire (D-Crest Hill), Representative Natalie Manley (D-Joliet) and Representative John Connor (D-Lockport) at the meeting.

“Our annual town hall meeting is a great opportunity for us to connect with residents and inform them about important legislation that was brought before the Illinois General Assembly this year,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “Government works best when there is constant communication and local officials work together to tackle the vital issues we are facing in our communities.”

Lawmakers will be available to answer questions and give a brief update on legislative matters. “This is a crucial year for Illinois residents,” McGuire said. “Please join us to hear about important new laws.”

The joint town hall meeting is free and open to the media and public. There are a number of important issues the General Assembly has tackled this year, such as passing a bipartisan budget that funds schools, local infrastructure improvements and stronger protections for sexual assault survivors.

“As John F. Kennedy famously said ‘The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all,’ and a town hall is one way for voters to keep informed,” Connor said. “I look forward to hearing from constituents and discussing Illinois’ way forward.”

Manley and Bertino-Tarrant have worked together to protect residents’ genetic testing results by preventing commercial genetic testing companies like ancestry.com and 23andMe from sharing any test results with health or life insurance companies without the consumer’s consent.

“During this legislative session, there have been several important issues that have come before the General Assembly,” Manley said. “I look forward to meeting with my constituents to update them on what my colleagues and I have been working on and hearing their feedback on how to make state government work better for the people of Illinois.”
