The Governor’s Mansion has been temporarily closed to the public this week because of work setting up a birthday party Wednesday evening.

“The governor and First Lady are excited to host a birthday party for Secretary of State Jesse White to celebrate his lifelong career in public service,” said Jordan Abudayyeh, press secretary to Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

White will be 85 on June 23.

Entertainment will include the Jesse White Tumblers and what the governor’s office calls a “surprise musical act.” The Pritzkers are paying for the party, though several businesses, including wineries and breweries, have donated products, and desserts are from the baking apprenticeship program at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

An invitation to the party, which runs from 6-9 p.m., said it would be an evening of “food, fun and funk” as the Pritzkers show “their love for Illinois’ own national treasurer to celebrate his birthday.”
