Betsy Dirksen Londrigan will represent students in the upcoming election

As students, we live by many rules made by people who tend to not pay attention to us. But in this election, we have a chance to change that by voting for Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.

Because many students have never voted before, they are often nervous about the process or are worried they’ll mess it up — so they simply don’t vote. Luckily, there are some great people who can help this time around. has unbiased information on where you can vote, as well as a full candidate guide, so you can gain information about the election process. You can also find your sample ballot there.

When you vote, I encourage you to support Betsy Dirksen Londrigan, the democratic candidate for Congress in our school’s district. Betsy is a University alum, a former teacher and a passionate advocate for improving healthcare. During her campaign, she has visited the University countless times to talk with students about marijuana legalization, college tuition and women’s birth control access. I personally helped organize an event with her regarding environmental preservation.

Betsy has proven to put forth effort into building a strong relationship with students. She has located her campaign office right off campus, so students can simply walk to her office if they want to get involved or ask questions.

Betsy has been endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters. A full list of her many endorsements can be found there.

The biggest reason I support Betsy is that she shows up. If you have a question about her healthcare policies or if you want to tell her your ideas regarding the reduction of college tuition, she’ll be there to talk.

Betsy Dirksen Londrigan cares. That’s why I’ll be voting for her before Nov. 6.

Ben is a senior in ACES.
