Calumet City Mayor Thaddeus Jones is expected to make a full recovery after a recent hospitalization for a minor stroke, according to his spokesperson.

Jones, also a state representative who is facing a write-in challenge for his 29th District seat in the general election, checked himself into a Northwestern Hospital “after experiencing physical complications while working from home,” spokesperson Sean Howard said Thursday.

The mayor stayed in the hospital overnight for tests, which confirmed he experienced a minor stroke, according to a news release. Jones informed Illinois House Emanuel Chris Welch and the Calumet City City Council’s president pro tempore of his medical condition.

“He will remain hospitalized for a few days while completing physical exercises commonly used after such episodes,” the release stated. “He is walking, talking, and performing light work duties, including meeting with the Calumet City Police Chief and Chief Administrator.”

The release said Jones “appreciates the outpouring of concern and prayers from residents throughout Calumet City and beyond.”

“The mayor looks forward to leaving the hospital soon and following his doctor’s ongoing guidance for his long-term health,” according to the release.
