The Republican candidate said he was caught off guard and will remain focused on state issues that he believes will determine the outcome of the governor’s race
SPRINGFIELD – Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker spent Tuesday touting his record of fostering Illinois’ economic growth while characterizing his Republican opponent, Darren Bailey, and MAGA Republicans, as standing behind what the governor called President Donald Trump’s destructive agenda.
Recently, Trump endorsed Bailey while taking a swipe at Prtizker.
“I think JB Pritzker is a disaster as a governor,” the President said. “You look at what’s happening with crime. For some reason, Democrats win there. I don’t know why. But Bailey is a very good candidate.”
The Prizker campaign jabbed back with a statement saying, “At a time when Trump’s war of choice and illegal tariffs are sending costs soaring and leaving working families to pay the price, Gov. Pritzker is delivering opportunity to Illinois.”
In the interview with Univision Pritzker emphasized the following:
- commitment to clean energy
- fighting back ICE and CBP’s (Customs and Border Protection) attacks
- supporting Illinoisans who’ve lost their healthcare and SNAP benefits
He said he was doing his best to keep the Bears in the state of Illinois, but when asked about the football team’s status countered by asking the interviewer if that was a pressing matter.

The Bailey campaign has enjoyed poking fun at Pritzker, posting a mock-up photo on its Facebook page of the governor in the gear of the Bears’ most notable rival, the Green Bay Packers.
The top post remains his visit in Frankford with firefighters and shoring up his image as a supporter of first responders.
There is no sharing of the Trump endorsement, only several videos, bringing focus to the voter’s bank account and a vow to lower energy costs by repealing the Climate and Equitable Job Act.
“We will stop closing reliable energy plants before replacement plants are ready, only to force families to pay more for electricity that is brought in from other states,” Bailey said during a recent media conference.
Bailey is also championing:
- Cap property taxes at 1% of a home’s purchase price
- Bring back transparency and accountability, especailly for tax policies
- Quality schools regardless of zip code
Bailey also told Muddy River News he wants to suspend the gas tax and roll back mandates that prohibit businesses from coming or staying in Illinois.
