Golden Anniversary, Evergreen Mission

At IEC’s 50th Anniversary Environmental Leadership Dinner, we celebrated Elaine Nekritz for her lifetime of incredible environmental policy work.

As an Illinois State Representative from 2003-2017, Elaine helped advance numerous critical pieces of environmental legislation, including introducing the first Illinois Clean Jobs bill, debuting the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition with advocates, and fighting off an attempt by polluters to weaken air permitting during the Rauner administration. After her retirement from the state legislature, Elaine has served as the lobbyist for the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition and was instrumental in the passage of CEJA. This year, she’s put her might behind passing public transit reform and funding.

Elaine recently announced her retirement, and we’re honored to celebrate her as she closes out her incredible career as a key change agent for climate, environmental protection, and economic inequality.

Since 1975, the Illinois Environmental Council has worked to safeguard Illinois—its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends by building power for people and the environment. Representing over 130 environmental organizations, IEC carries out its mission to advance public policies that create healthy environments across Illinois through education, advocacy, and movement building.
