URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Lincoln Square Mall will be hosting an annual event honoring a late Champaign-based Sen. to gather resources and help families later this month.
On Friday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Urbana mall will be hosting The Scott Bennett Family Resources Day. This yearly event is always held on the fourth Friday of August. The goal of the day is to gather community resources that assist families in one place, so that these families can attend and learn more about local resources available for them.
"What began with an emphasis on child support services has grown to include mental health, childhood education, housing, utility assistance, and many others," Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said in a Facebook post.
The event is named in honor of the late Sen. Scott Bennett (D-Champaign), who died of a brain tumor in December 2022. Rietz described Bennett as, "a joyful public servant and true champion for families in this community."
This year, the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office is co-sponsoring this event in partnership with the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission and the Office of Illinois State Sen. Paul Faraci, who succeeded the late Sen. Bennett to represent the 52nd Legislative District.
For more information on the event, visit Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz’s Facebook page. For questions on the event, call 217-384-3733 or email resourcesday@champaigncountyil.gov.
