Ready or not, another election season has officially begun.

Tuesday is the first day to circulate nominating petitions for established party candidates in Illinois. Republicans and Democrats can now collect signatures to get on the March 2026 primary ballot. Races up for grabs include statehouse seats and Illinois’ statewide offices like governor and U.S. senator. Filing week begins Oct. 27.

The March election will also include county races across the Starved Rock area including sheriff. A handful of candidates have already announced their intention to run for sheriff in Bureau County.
