Rep. Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) has announced is re-election bid for another term representing the 80th District in the Illinois House. DeLuca has served in the legislature since 2009.
Illinois’ primary election is March 17, 2026.
The 80th District includes portions of Homewood and Flossmoor.
DeLuca said he intends to continue his efforts to improve public safety, reform the property tax system that he calls “broken,” and expand economic opportunity for families.
“Now more than ever, we need leaders in Springfield who will never lose sight of what matters most for our communities. Throughout my time in my office, I’ve championed creative ideas to improve the overall quality of life, from advocating for law enforcement, to property tax reform, to growing our economy. My priorities will always be what’s best for the communities I represent,” DeLuca said.
Before being elected a member of the Illinois House, DeLuca served as mayor of Chicago Heights from 2003 to 2009. He also was a member of the Bloom Township District 206 school board from 1995 to 2003.
DeLuca is a graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School and Elmhurst University.
DeLuca touts his insights from representing south suburban communities in the legislature, including:
- Creating new opportunities and encouraging commercial and industrial development in the South Suburbs. The Southland Reactivation Act is leading to more jobs and higher wages for families.
- Improving public safety with a focus on violence reduction, by supporting new resources for law enforcement and data-driven investment in community-based violence resources to stop crime at its roots.
- Reforming the property tax system, increasing education funding, and restoring Local Government Distributive Funds so schools and municipalities have the resources they need, resulting in property tax relief.
- Making Illinois more affordable by working to reduce the cost of health care and prescription drugs, as well as lowering the costs for goods and services.
