Rockford lawmaker stresses importance of reading with Summer Book Club

ROCKFORD, IL — State Sen. Steve Stadelman kicked off his annual Summer Book Club June 17 at the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford — Stenstrom Unit, 609 Kilburn Ave.
Stadelman read to children at the center and challenged them to read eight books this summer. If they did, he promised them a pizza party in August.Students at the Boys & Girls Club Stenstrom Unit participate in the book club as part of a summer enrichment program that brings in experienced teachers to work with children on math and reading skills over the summer months.
Area parents can enroll their children in Stadelman’s Summer Book Club by downloading an online registration form at senatorstadelman.com or picking up a form at public libraries in Rockford, Loves Park, Cherry Valley or Belvidere.
