SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KFVS) – Illinois lawmakers, leaders at the University of Illinois Springfield and Southern Illinois University and students are set to announce the early results of the Prepare for Illinois’ Future program.
The announcement will be made in the Blue Room at the State Capitol in Springfield at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30.
Students, university leaders and lawmakers will share what impacts the program is having and why it should be supported.
The Prepare for Illinois’ Future program, initiated in February 2025, provides free test preparation courses to all students enrolled in Illinois’ public universities.
Students have free access to Kaplan’s best-in-class preparation for professional licensing and career entrance exams in fields such as medicine, nursing, law, accounting, real estate, cybersecurity, and more.
Five Illinois community colleges are also included as part of a pilot program.
According to a release from leaders of the prep test program, Illinois students have already saved nearly $8 million in out-of-pocket costs associated with test preparation in just two months.
They say the program is “removing barriers, opening doors to new careers, and strengthening Illinois’ workforce for the future.”
