SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A lawmaker hopes his changes to a survey providing feedback on the state’s daycare providers will draw more people to the profession with his bill signed into law by the governor last week.
With the new law, the existing State Comprehensive Day Care Plan survey will also include questions for groups and individuals with relevant expertise at day care facilities.
“This is a step toward providing quality education and childcare for Illinois families to alleviate the burden many in our communities are facing,” said State Senator Mike Simmons (D-Chicago) who sponsored the bill in the Senate. “With this law, we will collect feedback from communities across Illinois about their specific needs and how we can address them, ensuring families and children are being taken care of by the best.”
The goal of the extra feedback is to promote workforce recruitment and retention for educators and childcare providers.
“This is about listening to the needs of everyone, ensuring we understand the specific challenges and needs of our workforce and the communities they serve,” Simmons added. “As we work together, we can uplift struggling providers and find more efficient ways to address the employment shortages we currently face.”
According to the law, the survey will be updated every 4 years at a minimum. The survey will also be initially updated before data is collected for the 2025 survey.
