SPRINGFIELD (WGEM) – People may start seeing a change in job postings across Illinois in 2025.

A new law going into effect Jan. 1, 2025 will require companies to list an expected salary range in job postings.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) signed the legislation in 2023 amending the state’s Equal Pay Act of 2003. It will require employers with 15 or more employees to include the job’s pay scale and expected benefits in all postings.

“This is kind of making it clear that there is transparency around those things. People are going to work to provide for their families. They have a right to know how they’re going to be making if they get chosen for that position,” said Frances Orenic with the Illinois AFL-CIO.

Companies that fail to comply with the new law will have 14 days to add salary and benefit information to a job posting. If they fail to comply, they’ll face up to a $500 fine for a first offense. For a potential second offense, they’ll have seven days to comply or face a fine up to $2,500. All subsequent offenses come with fines up to $10,000.
