MONEE, Ill. (WGEM) – It was a day of celebration as Netherlands-based Voortman Steel Machinery announced it’s expanding its U.S. headquarters in Monee, Illinois.

“We are working everyday to attract good-paying long-term jobs to Illinois, and we will continue to invest in our people so that we can maintain one of the highest skilled workforces in the nation,” said Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D).

The Governor‘s Office said Voortman purchased a 27-acre property and will build a 100,000 square-foot building. Voortman plans to invest $51.4 million in the project.

Pritzker said it’s possible thanks to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development through its Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credit program.

He adds, the investment shows his plans to bring business to Illinois are working.

“A few months ago, my administration unveiled our five-year economic plan, which aims to build on the progress that we’ve made and chart the course for growth and prosperity that extends for generations. Voortman’s investment in this advanced manufacturing center is fortifying a central pillar of that plan,” Pritzker said.

State Sen. Patrick Joyce, D-Essex, echoed Pritzker’s comments.

“If you stop spending time wishing for Illinois’ downfall, and you actually put your shoulder to the wheel to and try to find solutions to make our state better, this proves that good things come of it,” Joyce said.

Both Joyce and Pritzker have the message: Illinois is open for business.

The Governor‘s Office said Voortman may receive an additional $10 million from the Invest in Illinois Fund. Created in 2023, it aims to make Illinois more attractive when vying for large projects in highly competitive sectors.
