Alderman Marty Quinn, state Representative Angie Guerrero-Cuellar and state Senator Mike Porfirio held the annual Senior Celebration at West Lawn Park on September 20.
The celebration, which started back in 2004, honors seniors of the 13th Ward that have made a significant impact in their neighborhood.
This year’s honorees were Ray Konrath, Bill Swiderski, Rosa and Arturo Zavala, Sophie Zellak, Eva Swiercinski, Mike Cozzi, and Rose Ferrarini.
“We had nearly 200 people, and 45 vendors this year join in on the celebration,” said Barb Ziegler, with Senior Services of the 13th Ward.
“The event featuring resource tables, live entertainment, light snacks and lunch is always held at West Lawn Park at 4233 West 65th Street as it’s the largest park in the area and is centrally located for everyone to get to,” Ziegler said.
Eight to 10 seniors are awarded each year.
“They’re nominated by others in the area and are chosen for various reasons. Each person awarded is very deserving. We always have a wonderful turnout with resources and lunch for our seniors,” she said.
