Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias visited Plano’s DMV Tuesday morning to unveil his department’s "One-Stop-Shop" initiative. Plano’s DMV is the first in the state to pilot the program.
Giannoulias says the idea is to combine the vehicle and driver services departments so that customers aren’t having to wait for staff that are only trained in certain jobs. Instead, everyone is cross-trained to provide both services.
Customers in Plano can now apply for a REAL ID or driver’s license, renew a driver’s license, or renew their vehicle’s registration all from one desk.
Giannoulias says it’s part of his efforts to modernize the office. He says Plano was selected as a pilot because it’s a great facility with good employees. He thinks the program could be rolled out at other DMVs by the end of the year.
