Illinois lawmakers are looking at a bill to regulate hemp products.
Capitol News Illinois reports that a bill in the legislature would create regulations for hemp products and prohibit the sale of anything containing synthetic THC, such as delta-8, until it can be more closely studied.
Tiffany Chappell Ingram is executive director of the Cannabis Business Association of Illinois. She says that products that don’t seem like it, can contain THC.
Experts say because of the lack of regulations on hemp consumer products, goods with hemp-derived THC can be made to look like chips or candy which can be confusing for kids.
Another similar bill being looked at in the Capitol would also tax and regulate Delta 8, but Ingram doesn’t think it does enough. She says there ought to be a halt of sales while scientists study the products.
