PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Both State Senators representing Peoria are coming together to address decay and deterioration in residential areas.
Democrat Dave Koehler and Republican Win Stoller co-sponsored Senate Bill 2936.
The bill would extend tax breaks to remodeled homes and duplexes in areas of urban decay to revitalize neighborhoods throughout the community.
Right now, only newly built single-family homes and duplexes qualify for tax breaks. Koehler said all residents deserve the opportunity to live in safe and well-maintained homes.
"We’re taking proactive steps to shape a better tomorrow for all residents," he said.
The bill passed the Senate on Tuesday and now heads to the House for a vote.
