SPRINGFIELD, IL (WTAX) – There is no shortage of discussion at the Capitol about carbon. It’s the subject of a bill which has passed an Illinois House committee.
State Rep. Diane Blair-Sherlock (D-Villa Park) says her proposal for a moratorium on building carbon sequestration pipelines in Illinois.
“Carbon dioxide seems to be a fairly innocuous substance,” she told a committee, “But in massive quantities, in massive density, it can kill you. It can explode, and so the concern is that we not rush into having all this carbon dioxide come from other states, potentially other countries, being put under our ground.”
Blair-Sherlock said she would not call the bill for a final vote … until there’s more negotiation and information.
HB 4835 has passed the House Energy and Environment Committee.
