CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — State Senator Paul Faraci (D-Champaign) is partnering up with the CU Schools Foundation for local residents to donate clothing and other essential items to students in need for the month of February.
Officials say the drive is an easy way for community members to donate to less fortunate students.
“CU Schools Foundation provides an amazing opportunity for the community to donate essential items like shoes, clothes, and backpacks,” Faraci said. “All of the items donated go to students in need, free of charge.”
The drive runs from Tuesday to Friday, Feb. 29.
Top officials with Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation thanked Faraci for helping local students.
"We created Operation Caring Closets to encourage our community to help support students with basic needs, so they can continue to come to school and learn alongside their peers,” Kelly Hill, the Executive Director for the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation, said. "We appreciate Senator Faraci stepping up and helping us to get the word out about this simple opportunity to provide a hand up to our students in need."
Both the Champaign and Urbana school districts created Amazon wishlists of items their students need. The full wishlists and instructions on how to order can be found on Senator Faraci’s website.
Alternatively, people can directly donate to CU Schools Foundation on their website.
Any questions or comments can be directed to the senator’s Champaign office at (217) 355-5252.
