SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is accepting applications for the latest round of rebates for those who have purchased an all-electric vehicle.

Through the Illinois Electric Vehicle Rebate Program, people can receive $4,000 for the purchase of an electric passenger vehicle or $1,500 for buying an electric motorcycle, according to Illinois EPA Director John J. Kim.

“The increased interest and adoption of electric vehicles in Illinois has resulted in an overwhelming response to the Illinois EV Rebate Program,” Kim said. “We are excited to offer another opportunity to provide approximately 3,000 additional rebates to recent EV purchasers.”

The General Assembly appropriated up to $12 million for the rebate program for the fiscal year. Actual funding will be determined by the amount of money available in the Electric Vehicle Rebate Fund.

The window for applications opened Wednesday and will close no later than Jan. 24. The rebate application must be postmarked within 90 days of the vehicle purchase date and the rebate application must be postmarked within the rebate period.

Applications are available online at bit.ly/46113EO.

There were 85,870 electric vehicles registered in Illinois as of June, according to the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.
