CHICAGO, Ill. — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) visited leaders of Illinois’ mourning Muslim and Jewish communities.

Reinforcing her support for those affected, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee member repeated her denouncement of antisemitic and Islamophobic rhetoric.

“Whether in Plainfield, Lombard, Israel or Gaza, no one deserves to be terrorized for who they are or what they believe,” said Duckworth.

On Friday, the Senator visited the mosque where 6-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume – the Plainfield boy killed in an apparent hate crime – was recently laid to rest.

Duckworth added, “After a precious young boy lost his life in an unimaginably cruel way just because he was Muslim, it’s on each of us to do everything in our power to end this spike in hate crimes in our state.” The Senator urged community members to denounce hate against Muslim and Jewish neighbors and remember the humanity in each other.

Duckworth also met with leaders from the American Jewish Committee Chicago, Jewish United Fund, Metropolitan Chicago Hillel and Anti-Defamation League reinforcing her support for Illinois’ Jewish community.

The visits arrive after the Senator spoke to Congress how “No child deserves to be terrorized.”
