SPRINGFIELD, ILL (WICS/WRSP) — A new report has ranked Illinois in 6th place with the most fentanyl-related deaths.

The report is from Families Against Fentanyl and it shows data from April 2022 to April 2023.

The Sangamon County Coroner said this report accurately shows where Illinois stands.

“Our accidental overdoses have spiked significantly over the last three years and they continue to go up unfortunately, we were seeing record numbers, record numbers,” Jim Allmon, Sangamon County Coroner, said.

Allmon said there have been 55 total fentanyl-related deaths in Sangamon County so far this year. There are 10 cases pending.
