A measure to protect children who may be used by parents working as social media influencers has passed both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly. Senate Bill 1782 was filed by state Sen. Dave Koehler (KAY-ler) and would set up protections for children that would include payments from any money earned by the parents. Koehler says the measure would limit parents’ ability to profit off their children through social media.
Illinois will be the first state in the nation with this type of law, he said.
The measure would also allow the child to request the deletion of the content upon turning 18.
