WABASH VALLEY, Ill. (WTHI) – An Illinois bill is protecting student attire at graduation ceremonies.
Senate Bill 14-46 prohibits schools from restricting students from wearing certain kinds of graduation attire.
The bill applies to accessories that reflect their cultural, ethnic or religious identity.
The legislation arose after a Native American student was stopped from wearing graduation clothing that reflected their heritage.
The bill now goes to the governor for final approval.
