NEW YORK – Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker touted economic achievements made under his administration in New York on Monday.
The speech was made to investors ahead of the state’s upcoming general obligation bond sale.
One of those achievements includes eight credit upgrades.
“We have more that we need to do. We know, just to become an average credit state in the United States, we have work to do. But we’re on our way. Our legislature understands the things we need to do to get there, and we are making real progress,” Pritzker said.
Pritzker also discussed increasing the state’s rainy day fund to around $2 billion from a low point of just $60,000, by adding $45 million to it each year. He says the legalization of cannabis is helping add to that fund.
He adds that his administration has reduced a deficit in the state budget that was more than $3 billion.
