A group representing naturopathic physicians is asking Illinois lawmakers to approve state licensure of their profession.
Naturopathic medicine uses a variety of techniques, from nutrition to herbal treatments to acupuncture to mental health care, as it seeks to address the root causes of illness.
The director of the Illinois group tells WMAY’s Greg Bishop that roughly half of all states license the profession.
She says while naturopathic doctors can be trained in Illinois, they often leave the state because of the licensing issue.
The bill is awaiting a hearing in an Illinois House committee.
