Despite holding a 40-to-19 supermajority in the chamber, Illinois Senate Democrats say they’re trying to foster bipartisanship by naming Republican co-chairs to two Senate committees.

Republican Senator Sally Turner of Beason, in Logan County, will serve as co-chair of the State Government Committee, while GOP Senator Dale Fowler of Southern Illinois will share the chairmanship of the higher education committee.

Democrats will continue to hold a majority of the seats on those two committees, but Senate Republican Leader John Curran says the co-chair appointments will lead to more collaboration between the two parties.
