Father Time has to be paid his duies, that’s why the State is coming up with 15 million to reverse the effects of age on the Old State Capitol.

The work done will remove and replace the Historic Site’s roof, repair damaged plaster, replace wood flooring, waterproof the basement and restore the perimeter fence.

Three elevators will be upgraded, the fire alarm will be replaced and public restrooms expanded.

The Old State Capitol is the heart of the city of Springfield. It hosts daily guided tours and is the site of naturalization ceremonies, among others.

It’s a recreation of Illinois’ statehouse from 1840 to 1878.
