Two proposals to move forward with planned housing developments come before the Normal Town Council on Tuesday.

On the agenda are a final plat for three Weldon Reserve houses on Beech Street, and an annexation agreement that sets aside nearby property for Carden Springs, a complex of garden-style apartments and townhouses.

Weldon Reserve is being constructed adjacent to the Wintergreen II subdivision in north Normal.

The town also proposes annexing about 36 acres on the northwest corner of Towanda Avenue and Beech Street — not far from the Weldon Reserve area. That will be set aside the future Carden Springs, a medium-density condo development.

Earlier this month, the Normal Planning Commission recommended the next steps for both developments.

The Bloomington-Normal area has a housing shortage, with more commuters traveling as far as an hour to reach jobs here, studies released in recent years have shown.

The 7 p.m. meeting on Tuesday will be in council chambers on the fourth floor of the Uptown Station. The council usually meets the first and third Mondays of each month, but the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. holiday pushed the meeting back a day.
