BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Incoming Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has announced he will bring a former political rival on board his transition team.
One-time Republican candidate for Secretary of State, Rep. Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) will reportedly be brought on board to help.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Brady said, “I am honored that Secretary-elect Giannoulias is rising above party politics by drawing on that experience to make the office the best that it can be.”
Brady has served as an Illinois State Representative since 2001, and served as McLean County Coroner from 1992 to 2000.
Brady was named to the Illinois House Republican Leadership team in 2003 and in 2017 he was named Deputy Minority Leader.
Referring to his accepting the new position with Giannoulias’ transition team, Brady adds, “During the campaign I stressed that the office of Secretary of State should be more about public service than public policy. I have had the unique experience of working with Secretary White on the issues of distracted driving, organ and tissue donation, senior citizen services, and services for individuals with special needs.”
Dan Brady is a resident of Bloomington Illinois, where he is a licensed funeral director associate in the funeral home firm Kibler-Brady-Ruestman.
According to Politico, Giannoulias has brought in more than 120 people to staff nine different transition committees.
Giannoulias officially takes office on Jan. 9, 2023.
