In one of the area’s more hotly contested Illinois State Senate races, Laura Murphy of Des Plaines led Sal Raspanti of Park Ridge as early results from the Nov. 8, 2022 gubernatorial election started tricking in Tuesday night.

According to the Cook County Clerk’s Office, Murphy, incumbent state senator of the 28th District, led Raspanti, who currently serves as Park Ridge’s city clerk, by an unofficial 5,930 votes to 4,276 with 26% of precincts reporting in the suburban Cook County district. Five precincts of the 28th are located on Chicago’s Northwest side, but those had yet to be reported by the Chicago Board of Elections as of 8:10 p.m.

Murphy led by even wider margins in the 28th District’s 11 precincts in northern DuPage County.

Murphy, a Democrat, is seeking her second consecutive four-year term in the state senate.

In other state senate races in Cook County’s Northwest suburbs:

27th District: Democrat Ann Gillespie led Republican Bill Robertson, 7,262 unofficial votes to 5,412 with 22% of precincts reporting.
