CHICAGO – State Rep. Fran Hurley (35th District) offering area residents a number of free services the Friday, Aug. 12, including document shredding, health screenings and expired prescription disposal. The three-in one event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, 3857 W. 111th St., Chicago, and is open to all residents. You can even pick up a free oak sapling.
“Residents will be able to accomplish a number of errands in one stop with this event,” Hurley said in a news release. “Whether you’re looking to remove some clutter at home or haven’t had your blood pressure checked in a while, this is the event for you.”
Available services include:
- Document shredding – residents are asked to removed all paper clips, staples and other bindings. There will be a limit of two boxes per car. Documents will be accepted until the shred truck reaches capacity. Residential shredding only.
- Mobile Health Screenings: We Work for Health will offer screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and body mass index, as well as give helpful tips on healthy diets. Interested residents are recommended to contact Hurley’s office at 773-445-8128 to make an appointment.
- Prescription Dug Take Back: Operated by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, residents can drop off old, unused or expired prescription drugs for proper disposal. Medication can only be in pill form, no liquids or sharps.
- Oak Saplings: Courtesy of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, residents can pick up free oak saplings while supplies last. Remember, that lovely shade tree you sit under today, was planted by someone 60, 70 or 80 years ago.
The three-in-one event is being co-hosted with Rep. Kelly Burke (36th District), Sen. Bill Cunningham (18th District), Ald. Matt O’Shea, MWRD Commissioner Kimberly Du Buclet and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. For more information, call 773-445-8128 or email RepFranHurley@gmail.com.
