AFFI presents Legislative Award | Community News | – The Beverly Review

State Rep. Fran Hurley was recently presented the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) Legislative Award for her strong track record in Springfield of supporting firefighters.

“I’m honored to be recognized by the wonderful individuals who make up AFFI,” Hurley said. “I am grateful for the work our firefighters and paramedics deliver each and every day for families across our state. They deserve a state that has their back and fully supports them.”

AFFI’s award recognizes lawmakers who stand with and support Illinois firefighters by championing legislation that supports first responders throughout Illinois.

This year, Hurley led efforts to provide additional financial support for the widows and orphans of fallen Chicago firefighters and police by raising the survivor’s minimum annuity (SB 4053).

She also worked to increase mental health access for first responders, supporting efforts to create a fund and grant program to provide behavioral health services for police, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel and 911 operators (HB 1321).

A member of the Moderate Caucus, Hurley was joined in the AFFI honor by fellow caucus members state Rep. Michael Halpin and state Rep. Larry Walsh.

AFFI represents 15,000 firefighters and paramedics in 225 communities in Illinois.
