Illinois Valley Association of REALTORS® recognizes April as Fair Housing Month

PERU – The Illini Valley Association of REALTORS® is recognizing Fair Housing Month this April by asking area Mayors and Village Presidents to sign proclamations declaring April as Fair Housing Month, thereby showing their commitment to affirmative action in promoting fair housing for all in their communities.

Realtors® around the country are commemorating the 54th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act in effort to further nationwide progress toward ending housing discrimination in the United States.

“April is Fair Housing Month, when we honor the struggle so many Americans have been involved in to secure equitable housing opportunity in the United States,” said Christine Dahm, 2022 President of the Illini Valley Association of REALTORS® “That effort continues to this day, and the Illini Valley Realtors® Association is proud to play a leading role in helping to secure diverse, inclusive communities throughout LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam counties.” 

The Mayors and Village Presidents who signed proclamations declaring April as Fair Housing Month are as follows:  Lance Korter, Village President, Cedar Point; Robert McCook, Village President, Cherry; Jared Baker, Village President, Granville; Kevin Coleman, Village President, Hennepin; Jeff Bergfield, Village President, Henry; John Sullivan, Village President, Kangley; Frank Cattani, Village President, Ladd; Edward Miranda, Village President, Manlius; Frank Niewinski, Village President, Mark; Brandy Sandberg, Village President, McNabb; David W. Boelk, Mayor, City of  Mendota; Dominic Rivara, Mayor, City of Oglesby; Charles Thomas, Village President, Ohio; Ken Kolowski, Mayor, City of Peru; John Ziel, Village President, Seatonville; Jeff Olson, Mayor, City of Seneca; Margaret Strothman, Village President, Sheridan; Tara Bedei, Mayor, City of Streator; Kevin Sluder, Village President, Tonica; Ryan Rosenthal, Village President, Walnut.

The National Association of REALTORS® kicked off Fair Housing Month recently with a packed calendar of events, new resources, and policy initiatives designed to empower its 1.5 million members to help expand homeownership and support diverse, inclusive communities.

Each April, Realtors® across the country observe the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 with events designed to educate about housing discrimination and segregation, recommitting to expanding equal access to housing.
