Signing up with Lightfoot are national political consultant Valerie Martin, whose Silversmith Strategies has handled media, digital advertising and overall campaign strategy for candidates including Illinois U.S. Reps. Robin Kelly and Brad Schneider.
Joining Martin will be media consultant Eric Adelstein, who has handled TV ads and other work for candidates including U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Georgia, and Georgia gubernatorial hopeful Stacey Abrams, as well as Illinois secretary of state hopeful Alexi Giannoulias.
The third new member of Lightfoot’s team is political coordinator Deborah Cosey-Lane. A former official with the Amalgamated Transit Union in Chicago, she’s expected to work to repair Lightfoot’s sometimes rocky relationship with organized labor.
“We are grateful to have these talented individuals on Team Lightfoot as we gear up ahead of a re-election announcement,” said Lightfoot spokesman Madison Olinger. “We need a leader who will keep us moving forward toward a post-COVID Chicago that lowers crime, brings new jobs and opportunities to the city and gives Chicagoans a leg up.”
Last month, former Chicago Public Schools chief Arne Duncan edged toward a race but ultimately decided not to run. Several others are still pondering, including U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, a North Side Democrat, and former CPS CEO Paul Vallas.
