SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS — Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA) has released its 2022 Legislative Scorecard for every member of the Illinois General Assembly. The ratings are based on members’ voting records for key legislation involving reproductive rights, access to reproductive health care, and sexual health education over an eight-year span. The Legislative Scorecard is intended to educate and inform the public on their representatives’ voting history in advance of the 2022 election. The full Legislative Scorecard is available at bit.ly/PPIAScorecard2022.
“At a time when access to abortion care is hanging by a thread, it’s imperative that Illinois remain a haven state in the Midwest,” said Jennifer Welch, President and CEO of PPIA. “Illinois’ Reproductive Health Act protects a person’s right to safe and legal abortion in the state, yet one bad election could put Illinoisans’ fundamental rights at risk again. We are releasing the Legislative Scorecard because we believe people should be able to make informed decisions about their elected officials and their ability to access essential health care.”
Of the 177 members in the Illinois General Assembly, 90 earned the “pro-choice” designation, 20 have “mixed” records, 66 are “anti-choice,” and one was not scored, because they were recently sworn in and do not have a record of votes on related legislation. This is the first time in a decade that PPIA had compiled and publicly released this information.
