Deaths threats to Illinois lawmakers have prompted Speaker of the House Chris Welch to call on other political leaders for help. Speaker Welch sent Minority Leader Jim Durkin a letter asking for help to tamp down hateful rhetoric. His letter says, in part, “I hope you can work with me to help heal our increasingly divided state by standing firm for our democratic values and always operating with mutual respect for all people.
