Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced last week that employees not fully vaccinated by Friday will face twice-weekly testing "on their own time and at their own expense," with the results to be shared with the city. Workers who don’t report their vaccination status by that date "will be placed in a non-disciplinary, no-pay status."
Catanzara discouraged FOP members from reporting their vaccination status to the city ahead of that deadline. He has insisted the mayor is out of bounds in mandating vaccines for workers, rather than presenting alternatives, and said the city has no right to change the terms of employment "on the fly."
"In solidarity," Catanzara said, he would "go into a no-pay status as your president."
"You will report to work for your Friday tour of duty and be sent home for not being in the portal. That’s the plan going forward. You have to show up to work and have the city, lieutenant, sergeant, whoever, send you home. Make sure you show up to work," Catanzara said.
A spokesman for the declined to comment.
