Less than 48 hours after final legislative approval, Governor JB Pritzker has signed a groundbreaking green energy bill, making Illinois one of the first states in the nation to make a move toward 100-percent clean energy and tackle climate change.
The new law is expected to force the shutdown of City Water Light and Power’s Dallman 4 coal-fired electric generator by 2045 at the latest. It also provides a bailout to Exelon that will keep two of the company’s nuclear power plants operating.
And it’s expected to drive residential electric rates higher, although estimates vary from three to 15 dollars a month.
