Il. Lieutenant Governor on masks: ‘This pandemic is not over’

DU QUOIN, IL (WSIL) – As on Monday, August 30, 2021, Illinois’s statewide mask mandate is in place.

Illinois residents must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are encouraged at crowded outdoor events, though they are not required.

Governor JB Pritzker also announced a vaccine mandate for Pre-K through 12 teachers, students and teachers in higher education and healthcare workers.

Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton (D) says more than 70% of Illinoisans have at least one dose of the vaccine, but says this pandemic isn’t over.

"It’s a piece of cloth or a fabric that we’re putting over our faces so that our children, especially those who cannot yet get vaccinated can be safe while they’re in school," says Lieutenant Governor Stratton.
