In the final days of session, Illinois lawmakers passed a budget bill, ethics reform, and an election overhaul. Now, there’s only one big-ticket item left: clean energy reform. Lawmakers say the fight isn’t over. House Republicans have asked the chair to allow the body to return within the week to get something passed. But the bill itself has proven controversial. In its current state, the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) would make Illinois carbon-free by 2050 and coal-free by 2035.
