A bill designed to change the way rural communities get their news passed the Illinois Senate Thursday. Senate Bill 134 creates a journalism task force made up of key stakeholders around the state to help rural communities receive news. State Rep. Steve Stadelman, D-Rockford, is the sponsor of the bill and is actually a former television anchor and reporter in Rockford. He said over the last 15 years, thousands of newspaper companies, especially in rural communities, have closed.
