SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Following Friday afternoon’s approval by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory panel for the resumption of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the Illinois Department of Public Health said Friday night it is advising all local health departments continue administering the vaccine, effective immediately.
The CDC and Food and Drug Administration later issued a joint statement advising all states to resume using the vaccine.
Around 760,000 doses of the vaccine had been allocated to Illinois. 290,000 of them were administered prior to the nine-day halt.
“The FDA has concluded the known and potential benefits of the J&J vaccine outweigh its known and potential risks,” said the IDPH in a statement.
