A longtime Springfield political operative has been named the new chair of the Sangamon County Democratic Party.

It’s not Bill Houlihan’s first time in the post… he was also the county party chair from 1988 to 1994. Houlihan succeeds Doris Turner, who stepped down from the party post when she was appointed state senator in February.

He currently works as the state director of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin’s office.
